I wish I had a friendship like Cee Cee and Bertie had. Even though it was too short, it was long in love.
I had seen the movie, but never read the book. After seeing the remake of the movie I decided it was time to read the book. I enjoyed how the author added vivid descriptions about California. I enjoyed how she had some heated arguments between the two friends, but how their true friendship endured even the rough times.
The descriptions of the medical care that Cee Cee would have to administer for Bertie was very good. A true friend gave up her acting career to perform the most selfless act and care for her dying friend. Even more love was shown when she insisted she raise her daughter after she died.
A great read for mature adults due to language, content and subject matter.

As good as the movie.
Sincere-unique relationship read. I was never bored. Just a light read . Not intellectually challenging. But has a good psychological basis for the characters.
I loved the characters and the depth of their friendship but the language was a bit stronger than I like to read.
Of course this is a wonderful book!!! The movie was wonderful and the book is better. Loved the characters and their relationship over the years. It made me laugh, it made me cry. After putting down my , I couldn't wait to get back to see what they were up to next! That's a good book.
it's sweet, but that's about all you can say for it. The story is very thin, the characters are not enthralling. One case which definitely made a better movie than a book - all the razzmatazz of the singing is missing in the written version.
While I truly love the movie, the book was of course better. It made me laugh and cry. I'm so glad I got to read it.
I just finished reading 'Beaches'.. and it's WAY different than the movie. I finally gave up comparing the two.. and just read it as if it were a new book. AWESOME READ!!! I loved learning so much about their childhood, the summer they spent working for the summer theater at the beach. Growing up.. their marriages.. their loves, their passions..
